Finished Friday (September & October ‘24)
Welcome back to another round of Finished Friday!
As promised, here is my 2-in-1 Finished Friday for the past two months, seeing as I have been away for three-quarters of the time. With that said, I have been working really hard this month to get everything done, as I have lots more projects pending. So - here’s the round-up!
Knitting
Kimi Vest Top
I’m mega pleased with this top! It fits super well and the lace pattern looks so neat. I also made some minor modifications to the pattern along the way (I extended the length of the body and changed the way I made the straps) which worked really well in the end too. It’s funny how it looked like such a mess right until I wove the final end in, and then it looked perfect!
My only gripes with this project are:
a) this used precisely one skein of yarn, but actually I had two to use up, so now I’m left with one more… do I make another? Do I use it for another project, for which I’d almost certainly need to buy more yarn and be trapped in an infinite loop of continuously buying more of the same yarn to use up? Not sure on this one yet.
b) the straps are a touch too long, which is fine, especially since the body is actually quite close-fitting. I’m silly and didn’t check the gauge properly, and luckily it’s ok but I don’t think the vest is supposed to be this tight (on the plus side, the tight gauge means the lace pattern doesn’t look as ‘hole-y’ as I think it’s supposed to, which I prefer). I had this problem with straps on another vest I knitted but it’s fixable - I suppose that is easier to modify than straps which are too short.
Paintbox Yarns Cable Socks
How cute are these! I particularly love the cable detail, plus the way the colours came out. I’m very happy to have finally finished these socks after suffering from the ‘second sock problem’ for a while. Plus, knitting these socks messed up my left wrist, so I’m glad it’s done just so I can take a break from fiddly knits. Socks/fingering weight yarn will be on pause from now!
Sewing
Visible Mending
Something I haven’t mentioned before is that I am almost always have some sewing on the backburner – usually alterations or mends. I am trying to get over the idea of perfection so I thought I would mend some holes in my favourite Fitzcarraldo Editions tote bag with visible mending. My initial try was a bit of a flop (see the first picture with my dear cat Milo supervising) but the second try seems to have solved it – and the mends look so cute now!
Printmaking
Asarotos Oikos
I’ll do a full write-up on this print later this month, but the Asarotos Oikos (‘unswept floor’) print was in development hell for a while. That aside, I’m super happy with the way the final print looks! It’s so cute that my next plans for it are to turn it into a card, available to buy on the shop. Hold onto your hats for that!
